アートと素材は切り離せない関係にあります。素材という言葉は芸術作品において材料と題材という2つの意味を持ちます。本展では、これら2つの素材に注目し、絵画や版画、工芸作品を、昨年度の新収蔵作品を交えながら紹介します。
Art and materials are inseparably linked. The word “material” in the context of artwork has two meanings: the physical medium and the subject matter. This exhibition focuses on these two “materials” and introduces paintings, prints, and crafts, as well as newly acquired works from last year.

本展では「冨田伊織 新世界『透明標本』展」に関連して”水”をキーワードに水辺の風景や生き物を表現した絵画、水彩画のような濃淡の調子を表現することができる版画技法」「アクアチント」の作品を中心にご紹介します。
In conjunction with the exhibition “New World ‘Transparent Specimens’ by Iori Tomita,” this exhibition introduces paintings depicting waterside landscapes and creatures with “water” as its theme, as well as works using a printmaking technique “aquatint,” which can express tonal gradations like watercolors.

冨田伊織（1983–）は北里大学水産学部在学中に研究用の透明骨格標本に魅せられたことから独自に制作を始め、2008年に透明標本作家として活動を開始します。タンパク質を酵素で分解し肉質を透明、硬骨を赤紫、軟骨を青色に染色する骨格研究の手法をもとに、冨田による卓越した技術によって芸術的表現まで高められた透明標本。その世界が生み出す生命の内なる美をご体感ください。
Iori Tomita (born in 1983) became fascinated with transparent skeleton specimens used for research during his studies at Kitasato University’s Department of Marine Biosciences. He began independently creating transparent specimens and launched his career as a transparent specimen artist in 2008. Based on a method used in skeleton research, where proteins are broken down by enzymes, flesh becomes transparent, bones are stained reddish-purple, and cartilage is stained blue, Tomita has elevated these transparent specimens into artistic expressions with his exceptional skill. Experience the inner beauty of life that this world creates.

今年は広島に原爆が落とされて80年の節目の年です。この間、美術家たちは被爆の現実とどのように向き合ってきたのでしょうか。本展では、当館蔵の作品と館外からお借りした作品とを展示し、広島原爆に対する美術家たちの想像力の在り処を辿ろうとするものです。
This year marks 80 years since the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. How have artists confronted the reality of the atomic bombing over this period? This exhibition features works from our collection and those on loan from outside the museum, tracing the essence of artists’ imagination about the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.

This exhibition commemorates the 100th anniversary of the birth of Japanese painter Goami Kakudo, born in Kure City and associated with Kurose-cho, Higashi-hiroshima City, featuring works by Goami Kakudo from our collection.

1960年代アメリカを中心に広まり今なお人々を魅了するポップ・アート。本展ではロバート・ラウシェンバーグ、ジャスパー・ジョーンズ、アンディ・ウォーホル、ロイ・リキテンスタインらアメリカのポップ・アートを代表する4名の作家を軸に版画やポスター、服飾品からその魅力に迫ります。
Pop art, which spread primarily in America during the 1960s, continues to captivate people even today. This exhibition explores the fascination of American pop art through the works of 4 iconic artists: Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol, and Roy Lichtenstein, featuring prints, posters, and fashion items.
